Strategic Finance Advisory
De Valore provides strategic finance advisory services to charities, not-for-profits and purpose-driven organisations — delivered with the expertise of a senior CFO and the accessibility of an independent practice.
"Experienced financial leadership for organisations that exist for a reason."
Charities and not-for-profits operate with real financial complexity — grant funding, restricted reserves, compliance obligations, governance requirements — often without a dedicated CFO to navigate it. De Valore exists to close that gap, across three areas: ongoing CFO support, focused finance projects, and building internal capability.
Most engagements fall into one of three areas. In practice they often connect — a governance review might lead to ongoing CFO support; a reporting project might involve mentoring the finance team alongside the technical work.
For organisations that need ongoing strategic financial leadership — a consistent senior finance presence without the cost or commitment of a full-time appointment. I can provide CFO-level support, work alongside an existing finance manager, or step in during a period of transition.
Defined-outcome engagements for organisations with a specific finance problem to resolve. Sometimes the need isn't ongoing support — it's a reporting framework that isn't working, a technical accounting issue, an audit that needs preparation, or a governance review that's been on the agenda for too long.
The best outcome is an organisation that understands its own finances without needing to call me every time. Capability building is for organisations where the real need is investing in their people — mentoring the finance team, building board financial literacy, or developing internal capability that stays after the engagement ends.
De Valore specialises in charities, not-for-profits and purpose-driven organisations. This is not an add-on to a general practice — it is the focus. The sector has its own complexity, and the work I do reflects that.
Organisations navigating ACNC requirements, grant acquittals, and the accountability expectations of donors, government funders, and regulators.
NFPs with complex funding arrangements, multi-entity structures, or boards that need high-quality financial information to govern effectively.
Organisations at the intersection of mission and financial sustainability — including social enterprises, peak bodies, and government-funded service providers.
Leaders who want a senior finance voice at the table — someone who can work through complex financial matters and translate them into practical advice and clear decisions.
Boards that want clearer, more useful financial reporting, and committees that need support developing or reviewing financial frameworks and governance arrangements.
Organisations replacing a CFO, preparing for audit, or working through a period of change — who need experienced interim support without the overhead of a permanent appointment.
Not sure which service area fits your situation?
Let's talkGood financial advice doesn't come from a methodology deck. It comes from asking the right questions, understanding the specific situation, and being direct about what the numbers are saying.
I don't have a product to sell or a team to keep busy. My focus is straightforward: what does your organisation actually need?
Recommendations need to work in the real world — with your team, your systems, and your constraints. I don't hand over reports and disappear.
Financial complexity shouldn't mean inaccessible advice. I work to make sure boards, CEOs, and leadership teams understand what they're looking at and why it matters.
The goal is to leave your organisation in a stronger position — not to create ongoing reliance on external support. I'm transparent about that from the start.
Founder of De Valore, Chartered Accountant and strategic finance advisor.
I founded De Valore to fill a gap I kept seeing in practice: not-for-profit and purpose-driven organisations doing genuinely important work, often carrying real financial complexity, but without access to senior financial advice that could make a meaningful difference.
My background is in Chartered Accounting, with most of my career spent in or around the not-for-profit sector — across financial reporting, governance, board advisory, audit environments, government funding arrangements, and finance process improvement. I've been in enough board meetings and finance committee conversations to understand what good looks like, and what the consequences are when things aren't working as they should.
De Valore works across three areas: ongoing CFO support for organisations that need consistent senior financial leadership; focused project work when there's a specific problem to solve; and capability building when the real need is investing in people and systems. Most engagements start with a conversation about which of those fits.
De Valore means "of value" — a reminder of the standard I hold myself to.
Areas of Expertise
"Most conversations start with someone describing a problem they haven't quite been able to articulate yet. That's fine — it's often where the most useful work begins."
If you've arrived here through a referral or a conversation, I'd welcome the chance to speak. An initial call is always free and without obligation.
If you're not sure whether the timing is right, or whether what you're dealing with is something I'd normally take on — get in touch anyway. The worst outcome is that I point you somewhere useful.
Every engagement starts with a conversation. I'll ask about your organisation, your current situation, and what's prompted you to seek outside advice. From there, we'll work out together whether there's a good fit — and what that might look like.
I work with a small number of organisations at a time, so I can give each engagement the attention it deserves.
